macOS says the app is “damaged” — read this first
It is not damaged. macOS shows that message for any app downloaded from the web that is not signed with a paid Apple Developer ID. It has not inspected the app; it is refusing on paperwork.
To open it, once:
- Drag DriveXos into your Applications folder.
- Open Terminal (press ⌘ Space, type Terminal, press Return).
- Paste this line and press Return:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/DriveXos.app
That removes the “downloaded from the internet” flag from this one app. It asks for no password and changes nothing else. Open DriveXos normally afterwards — you never have to do it again. The same note is inside the disk image as READ ME FIRST.txt.
Prefer not to run software Apple has not countersigned? That is a fair position — use the Windows build, or tell us and we will let you know when a notarised Mac build ships.
Which Mac do I have?
Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it lists a Chip such as “Apple M2”, choose Apple silicon. If it lists a Processor such as “Intel Core i7”, choose Intel.
The Mac build is finished and in testing. We are waiting on Apple’s notarisation so it opens with a double-click, the way it should — rather than shipping something macOS calls “damaged”.

The same installer covers both plans. Install it, use the free features for as long as you like, and activate a Premium licence later from inside the app — no reinstall. By downloading you agree to the Licence Agreement.
From download to first scan
On Windows
- Run
DriveXosSetup.exeand follow the installer. - SmartScreen may warn on a new release — choose More info → Run anyway.
- Launch DriveXos. It starts without Administrator rights.
- Pick a drive and run your first scan. Nothing is deleted during a scan.
On macOS
- Download the
.dmgfor your Mac — Apple silicon or Intel. - Open it and drag DriveXos into Applications.
- If macOS says it can't check the app, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
- Grant Full Disk Access when asked, so it can size every folder.
- Deletions go to the Trash by default, exactly like the Windows build.

Some system locations need elevation to scan or clean. DriveXos asks only at the moment it actually needs it — never at startup.
